Stockbridge, Ga. Earns Clean Audit, Posts $17.9M Fund Balance
The city received an unmodified audit opinion for fiscal year 2025 and closed the year with a $17.9 million General Fund balance.
The City of Stockbridge, Georgia, secured the highest level of independent audit assurance available to municipal governments, receiving an unmodified opinion — commonly called a clean opinion — on its fiscal year 2025 financial statements, officials announced Thursday.
Independent auditor Mauldin & Associates issued the finding for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2025. An unmodified opinion indicates that auditors found no material misstatements and that the financial statements present the city's fiscal position fairly and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

The city closed the fiscal year with a General Fund balance of $17.9 million, a figure that serves as a key indicator of a municipality's short-term financial resilience and its capacity to cover operating expenses during revenue shortfalls or unexpected emergencies. A healthy fund balance is often viewed by bond rating agencies and oversight bodies as a sign of prudent fiscal management.
For a city the size of Stockbridge, achieving both a clean audit and a substantial fund reserve underscores the discipline required to maintain public trust in local government finances. Municipal audits of this kind are typically conducted annually and reviewed by city councils, state oversight agencies, and credit analysts who assess the creditworthiness of local governments.
